About Therapy

Q: How can therapy help me?
A: Therapy can help you gain a better understanding of yourself, your goals, and your values. It develops improved relationship skills, effective coping strategies for stress and anxiety, enhanced self-esteem, and provides tools to navigate life’s challenges with greater resilience.

Q: Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems on my own.
A: Seeking therapy is a sign of self-awareness and strength, not weakness. Therapy provides a neutral, professional space to explore challenges that are hard to work through alone. Even people who are “doing fine” benefit — therapy isn’t just for crisis situations. It’s for anyone who wants to grow, improve, or feel better.

Q: What is therapy like at Feel Happy Counseling?
A: Sessions are 50 minutes. They typically involve discussing what’s happening in your life, exploring patterns and underlying emotions, and developing practical strategies and action steps you can use between sessions. Judy is known for making sure every client leaves with something concrete to work on.

Q: What about medication vs. psychotherapy?
A: We are a therapy-only practice and do not prescribe medication. However, we can work alongside your prescribing physician if medication is part of your treatment. Research shows that therapy — especially CBT — produces longer-lasting results than medication alone for many conditions like anxiety and depression.

Q: How long will I need therapy?
A: It depends on your goals and the issues you’re addressing. Some clients feel significant improvement in 8–12 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term work. We regularly check in about your progress and adjust accordingly — you’re always in control of your treatment timeline.

About Our Practice

Q: Do you take insurance?
A: We are an out-of-network private pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly. However, we provide superbills — detailed receipts — that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We recommend checking with your insurer before your first session to understand your benefits.

Q: How much do sessions cost?
A: Sessions are $195 for a 50-minute appointment. Premarital counseling packages are available at a bundled rate of $1,295 for 8 sessions.

Q: Do you offer virtual therapy?
A: Yes. We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for clients throughout Florida. Virtual sessions are available for individual therapy, couples counseling, and specialized treatments.

Q: Do you offer therapy in Spanish?
A: Yes. Judy Irizarry is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and warmly welcomes Spanish-speaking clients.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: We require at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice and no-shows are charged 50% of the session fee. Monday appointments must be cancelled by 4:00 PM the preceding Friday. Please see our full Cancellation Policy for details.

Q: What ages do you work with?
A: Judy Irizarry works primarily with adults. Nuria Clarke-Farghason specializes in children and adolescents ages 10–18.
