Children and Adolescent Therapy in Windermere, FL (Ages 10–18)

At Feel Happy Counseling, we understand the unique challenges children and adolescents face during their developmental years. Nuria Clarke-Farghason specializes in providing compassionate, tailored therapy for children and teens ages 10 to 18 in Windermere, FL and the surrounding Central Florida area.

Common Issues We Address

Young people today face unprecedented pressures — academic stress, social media, peer relationships, family dynamics and identity development all create unique mental health challenges. Nuria specializes in:

  • Anxiety: School anxiety, social anxiety, performance anxiety and generalized worry
  • Depression: Persistent sadness, withdrawal and loss of interest in activities
  • Self-Esteem and Confidence: Building a positive self-image and healthy identity
  • Behavioral Challenges: Difficulty managing emotions, acting out, boundary issues
  • Trauma: Processing difficult or traumatic experiences in a safe, developmentally appropriate way
  • Grief and Loss: Supporting children through loss of a loved one, divorce, or major life changes

How We Work with Young Clients

Nuria’s approach with children and teens is warm, engaging and developmentally sensitive. She creates a safe, non-judgmental space where young people feel heard and understood — often for the first time. Therapy may incorporate age-appropriate activities, discussion, skill-building exercises and tools from CBT and trauma-informed care. Parents are also kept informed and engaged as appropriate to support their child’s progress at home.

What to Expect in Sessions

Initial sessions involve getting to know your child and understanding their world from their perspective. Nuria works collaboratively with young clients — never lecturing, always listening. Sessions are 50 minutes. Parents may meet separately with the therapist to discuss progress and strategies for supporting their child between sessions.

Signs Your Child May Benefit from Therapy

  • Persistent sadness, moodiness, or emotional outbursts
  • Declining grades or school refusal
  • Social withdrawal or loss of friendships
  • Sleep disturbances or appetite changes
  • Self-harm or talk of suicide (seek immediate help)
  • Behavioral changes following a life event (divorce, move, loss)
  • Excessive worry or physical complaints without medical cause

Recovery and Hope

Young people are remarkably resilient. With the right support at the right time, children and teens can develop coping skills, emotional intelligence and self-confidence that serve them for life. Early intervention in childhood and adolescence produces some of the strongest outcomes in all of mental health treatment. Your child can thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What age range does your teen therapist work with?
A: Nuria Clarke-Farghason works with children and adolescents ages 10–18.

Q: Will my child have to talk about things they don’t want to?
A: No. Therapy is always at the child’s pace. Nuria creates a safe, pressure-free environment where young people choose what to share and when.

Q: How involved are parents in their child’s therapy?
A: Parent involvement is balanced carefully. We keep parents informed without breaking the child’s confidentiality and we provide strategies for supporting their child at home.

Q: Do you offer virtual therapy for teens?
A: Yes. We offer telehealth sessions for teens throughout Florida — teens often find virtual sessions less intimidating than in-person visits.

Q: How do I get my reluctant teenager to come to therapy?
A: Start by normalizing therapy as a helpful tool, not a sign that something is “wrong” with them. Let them have some choice in the process. Many teens who come in reluctantly leave the first session relieved. Call us for guidance on how to start the conversation.
