Teen Therapy in Orlando
Most parents who contact us about a teenager have already tried talking, and it did not go anywhere. That is usually what brings them, rather than a crisis. This page is written for that situation.
Why a teenager will tell a stranger what they will not tell you
It is not a judgement on you. A teenager protects their parents from the worst of it, often deliberately, because they can see what it costs you to hear. A therapist has no such claim on them. There is nothing to protect and nothing to manage, which is exactly why the room works.
It follows that the goal is not for us to report back to you. If a young person believes the hour is a channel to their parents, they will use it as one, and say nothing worth saying.
The question to ask any therapist before you book
Ask what will and will not be shared with you, and ask it at the first appointment rather than at the first difficult moment. Every practice handles this differently and the honest ones will tell you plainly, including where the limits are around safety. If a therapist is vague about it, that is your answer.
What tends to bring teenagers in
School pressure that has stopped being ordinary pressure. Friendships that have turned. Sleep that has gone. A mood that has lasted long enough to stop looking like a phase. Sometimes a specific event, sometimes nothing anyone can point at.
We also see young people whose parents are separating, and young people who are managing perfectly well on paper and are exhausted by it.
Ages, and where parents fit
We work with teens from age 14 upwards. Parents are part of the picture rather than outside it, and where it helps we will see you separately. What we will not do is turn the young person’s hour into a meeting about them.
Coming from Orlando
Our office is on Conroy Windermere Road, west of Orlando. Some families prefer that the appointment is not in their own neighbourhood, which is a reasonable thing to want. We also work across Florida by video, which some teenagers strongly prefer and some cannot use at all, depending on whether their room is private.
Starting
Request an appointment. Our fees are published on the fees page, and there is more on our general teen therapy work.
